About
I am a Professor of Language Sciences at Aix-Marseille University (Laboratoire Parole et Langage). My background combines Computer Science (PhD) and Linguistics. My main research focus is language in conversation: I see “conversation” and “spontaneous speech” as crucial genres for understanding human language and nature. I take the performance of large language models, including in dialogue, has a major new fact that linguists need to address. I keep in mind that thousands of languages remain excluded from most current computational approaches. While I am interested in new models and architectures, I believe we need a better balance between efforts devoted to data collection and analysis, and those devoted to model training and development.
